Zim Fashion Week returns to Victoria Falls

The four-day event features workshops, panel discussions, exhibitions and will allow attendees to explore beyond the main venue as the shows will be hosted in different areas, showcasing the beauty and diversity of Victoria Falls.

Zimbabwe Fashion Week Trust (ZFW) returns to the iconic Victoria Falls from October 16 to 20.

The four-day event features workshops, panel discussions, exhibitions and will allow attendees to explore beyond the main venue as the shows will be hosted in different areas, showcasing the beauty and diversity of Victoria Falls.

According to organisers, this year's edition provides insights into Zimbabwe's fashion landscape, from traditional techniques to modern innovations.

The event offers an immersive experience, showcasing fashion, arts, cuisine and culture.

Building on the success of its relaunch in 2023 after a four year hiatus, ZFW 2024 aims to take the event to new heights by offering a diverse program that caters to all tastes and interests.

While the main event remains the fashion show, which will feature both local and international designers, this year's edition will also incorporate elements that engage all the senses.

Attendees can expect a feast for the eyes as they take in the stunning backdrop of the premier resort of Victoria Falls, one of the seven natural wonders of the world. The event will feature a range of culinary delights from local restaurants, offering a true taste of Zimbabwean cuisine.

In addition to the fashion show and culinary experiences, ZFW 2024 will also showcase the talents of artists from across Zimbabwe, with performances and exhibitions that highlight the country's vibrant arts scene. For those looking to explore beyond the main venue, ZFW 2024 will also host shows in different areas, providing an opportunity to experience the beauty and diversity of Victoria Falls.

In a statement released by ZFW earlier this week, Priscilla Chigariro, the founder of Zimbabwe Fashion Week said that the edition will leverage the breathtaking backdrop of Victoria Falls to showcase the remarkable talent of local designers.

“Our commitment is to provide them with a world-class platform and production, ensuring their creativity and craftsmanship receive the recognition they deserve on a global stage.”

Marshall Mutsamwira, the director of ZFW emphasised on the importance of celebrating cultural heritage. “Featured will be a variety of events that not only cater to fashion but span across African cuisine and arts, offering attendees a deeper understanding of Zimbabwe’s heritage and contemporary culture," he said.

Tiago Valente, the Trust Board Advisory Member of Zimbabwe Fashion Week, expressed his excitement saying this years event goes beyond fashion as it will serve as a platform to highlight their commitment to sustainability, social justice and the incredible diversity of Zimbabwe's creative talent.

“I am excited to see how this celebration will empower our designers and position Zimbabwe on the world stage. From Zimbabwe to the world, we are creating a vibrant, inclusive future for fashion.”

At its core, ZFW 2024 is about more than just fashion - it's about promoting tourism and showcasing Zimbabwe as a premier destination for both fashion enthusiasts and trvellers. By bringing together fashion, culture, and tourism, ZFW 2024 aims to create an unforgettable experience that celebrates the best of Zimbabwe.

ZFW also announced the official opening of designer applications. Those interested can apply on the website https://www.zimbabwefashionweek.com/.

At last years relaunch, the focus was on fostering young designers’ growth and creativity, honouring Mbuya Nehanda, a spiritual leader and cultural symbol during the First Chimurenga in Zimbabwe (1896-1897).

The event showcased the fashion technique of draping which allowed designers to manipulate fabric directly on a mannequin, creating distinctive and three-dimensional designs.
