I won’t stay beyond my term: ED claims

He also claimed that he will not stay beyond the two-term limit imposed by the Constitution and that he will leave office in 2028 when his term is supposed to end.

HARARE Feb. 16 (NewsDay Live) - President Emmerson Mnangagwa says he is aware of individuals who are always dressed in Zanu PF regalia yet they are not members, and accused them of causing chaos and divisions within the party structures.

He also claimed that he will not stay beyond the two-term limit imposed by the Constitution and that he will leave office in 2028 when his term is supposed to end.

Addressing editors from various media houses in the capital Monday, Mnangagwa spoke on a number of issues ranging from intra-party conficts, succession, and national economic challenges,

Recently, some Zanu PF supporters clashed at the National Heroes Acre where songs calling for Mnangagwa were drowned in chants that favour his deputy Constantino Chiwenga.

Asked how he planned to douse the internecine flames fueled by party hardliners pushing to extend his term of office beyond 2028,  Mnangagwa said:

"I think those who really are Zanu PF at heart go by the rules and decorum of Zanu PF. We have other people who are in Zanu PF but are not Zanu PF ,yet they dress in Zanu PF regalia. So you must have eyes to see which camp they belong whenever they open their mouths. "

Mnangagwa reiterated that he would step down at the end of his second five-year term in 2028.
