SIXTEEN models drawn from across the Midlands province will next Saturday battle for honours in the Miss Gweru pageant.
Miss Gweru is one of the oldest pageants in the country that have stood the test of time under the leadership of modelling guru Mavis Koslek.
This year’s edition, which is running under the theme The Pinnacle of beauty, will be held at Gweru’s Club Milan.
Musician Trevor Dongo will headline the pageant with other performances coming from Making Moves, The Fuse and Royal Kings Dance Group.
Koslek said all was set for the pageant.
“We are running around planning for this important day,” Koslek who is the founder, patron and director of the Miss Gweru and Miss Kwekwe told Standard Style.
“Sixteen participants from in and around Gweru, including those from outside town, but attending Gweru tertiary institutions will compete.”
Slots up for grabs include the queen, first and second princess, Miss Personality and Miss People's Choice.

Koslek, who has chaperoned at pageants of a higher magnitude such as Miss Zimbabwe and Miss Malaika, among others, expressed her gratitude at companies that have come on board to support this year’s edition.
“This year we are being sponsored by Milan Family Restaurant. Rivervalley Properties, Mahogany Sound and Lighting, OK Mart, Glow Petroleum, CN Photographers, Suskwe Lodges and Mid-drive Driving School, among others,” she said.
The Image Modelling Agency founder said because most of the contestants were Gweru-based, there was no need to host a boot camp.
Outgoing queen Lisa Kobekile is expected to handover the crown to newly crowned queen on the night.
Other winners at last year's edition include first princess Chenai Moyo, second princess Michell Amos.
Catherine Nyabunze was Miss Personality while Miss People's Choice went to Aisha Ocean Matewele.
