Non-profit organisation ZimHeart Trust will host its first annual fundraising Golf Day to raise awareness of heart conditions and raise funds for its activities.

The golf event is scheduled to take place on March 21, 2025, at the Chapman Golf Club.

ZimHeart Trust is looking to raise funds for medicines, routine tests, treatments, and life-saving surgeries for individuals who cannot afford them. In addition, the organization wishes to implement educational programs aimed at raising awareness about heart health and prevention strategies in communities. We would also like to increase counseling services for heart patients and their relatives, in distress

“Through your generosity and support, we hope to raise a meaningful amount and create relationships that will assist those with heart conditions. Many people are battling to survive in the current harsh environment, and we as ZimHeart Trust endeavor to assist patients who need to be diagnosed and managed. This requires several interventions as they need to go through several tests. After those tests usually people are then referred to for various treatments which may include open heart surgeries,” Co-Founder of ZimHeart Trust Farai Chirikure said.

He added that last year Parirenyatwa Hospital did more than 40 heart surgeries which are mainly valve replacement. There are, however, other complicated conditions that require people to travel abroad, and the most popular destination now is India.

“We also used to have some of our members travel to South Sudan where there was a facility run by Italians where heart patients were given discounts or accessed heart surgeries for free. With the war that broke out in South Sudan, members are no longer travelling there.

“Available options are now Parirenyatwa Hospital for valve replacements and India for other sophisticated surgeries," he said.

“We are looking for partnerships that can help us raise sufficient resources to send heart patients outside the country for treatment as Parirenyatwa Hospital cannot cope with all the required surgeries. Resources are also needed to fund medicines and counselling requirements for our members. We also require resources to set up formal offices where we can coordinate our activities from.”

ZimHeart Trust is a formally registered Trust with a functional Board of Trustees who are either heart patients themselves or have heart patients in their families.  It was registered in 2017 and has patient or affected membership of 350 with 320 of them being heart patients.

The golf day was initiated by Kingdom Legends, which is a group of Kingdom Bank former employees..

Some of the corporate participants include Eco Bank, IDBZ and Cell Insurance Group.
