0ne of the Mutupo Isibongo Golf tournament sponsors Proton Bakers has praised the organisers for embracing young golfers and schools in this year's edition.
The 2025 edition of the Mutupo Isibongo Golf tournament teed off in thrilling fashion on Friday last week with the first event of the series taking place at Royal Harare Golf Club.
A total of 19 out of 22 local totems, making up 112 golfers, that have participated in the tournament were represented, with last year's runners-up, the Moyos totem needing a count back to beat the defending champions Shumbas.
Both teams had finished on 152 points while Mhofus also needed a count back to wrestle third place from the Dziva totem after the two tied on 147 points.
The novel golf event included a number of school-going golfers.
Interestingly, the individual stableford for men was won by nine-year-old golfer Tawananyasha Nyamukondiwa, a grade four pupil from Emerald Hill Primary School representing the Dziva totem.
Impressed by Nyamukondiwa's exploits Proton Bakers pledged to buy the young golfer a set of golf clubs, give him one month’s supply of bread, and sponsor him to participate in the Mutupo Isibongo international golf event set for Warwickshire, England in July.
"This what we love to see as the sponsors, young golfers showcasing their talent at this platform. It is remarkable what Tawananyasha has achieved at such a young age playing against adults and we must make sure we help him reach his full potential. As Proton Bakers, I think it is prudent for us to buy this young golfer a new golf bag, try to ensure we facilitate for him to play at Mutupo Isibongo Golf tournament UK edition, and also give him a month's supply of bread, courtesy of Proton Bakers," Proton Bakers Chief Sales Officer Daniel Chipato said.
