Veteran golfer Batsirai Tilowakuti won the 2025 edition of the Harare Province Ladies Golf Association Stroke Play Championship after grossing 236 in 54 holes at Chapman Golf Club on Sunday.

The runner-up place was claimed by Letwin Ncube on 262 gross total.

Loveness Chandavengerwa emerged champion in the A Division also known as the Margaret Trophy with a gross of 272 while Stella Feldman from the Midlands was second 12 strokes behind.

Mikayla Nyazika won the Victoria Trophy which is the B Division, played over 36 holes with a gross of 189 while Rugare Mukumba bagged the C Division which is also known as the Jane Borrow Trophy on a 218 gross score over 36 holes.

The two-day standalone tournament was well attended, with a good number of players from other provinces participating as well.

There was particularly good representation from the Midlands Province, and there is hope to see greater participation from the other provinces in future tournaments.

“This is Harare Province’s earliest start to the golf season in a very long while, and we are grateful to our partners for helping make the tournament a success. The organising team put in a lot of work and I am particularly grateful that everyone was able to attend to any issues that arose with due care and efficiency,” Penelope Guzha, the HPLGA President, told this publication.

“We had great support from tournament sponsors such as Pam Golding, NDT Tech Solutions, and in particular our major sponsor Hempac Sports who helped boost our prize table significantly.”

Players battled the weather, particularly on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, but they rose to the challenge and we came out with a great champion, Tilowakuti.

It was an exciting tournament, even for spectators, given that Chapman Golf Club is one of Zimbabwe’s most challenging courses.

The Zimbabwe Ladies Golf Union is on a big drive to promote golf participation by young girls, and it was pleasing to see that 27% of the tournament participants were junior golfers.

The HPLGA is looking forward to further progression of the junior golf development programmes and increased sponsorship towards this endeavor.
