THE Old Mutual Harare Marathon, held on February 9, 2025, was a resounding success, bringing together runners, families, and supporters in a celebration of community spirit, health, and endurance.

According to Lillian Mubayiwa, Old Mutual’s marketing, public affairs & sustainability executive, the event embodied the values of striving for excellence and achieving personal bests.

“This marathon is about pushing oneself to new heights and celebrating the power of community and unity,” Mubayiwa said.

“As a qualifier for prestigious races like the Oceans and Comrades marathons, it holds even more significance for our runners.”

The event saw participants competing in various distances, including the 42,2 km, 21,1km, 10km, and 5km races.

The winners of this year’s marathon exemplified excellence in endurance sports, with standout performances across all categories.

Mubayiwa congratulated every participant for their incredible effort and dedication, noting that the event’s success was thanks to each of them.

She also reiterated Old Mutual’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote physical wellness, sustainable development, and the growth of local talent.

In the 10km races, the winners were Melody Kaseke, Andrew Dick, and Caroline Mhandu in the women’s and men’s categories, respectively.

In the 21,1 km races, the top finishers included Caroline Mhandu and Moses Tarakino.

For the 42,2 km events, Graham Dorothy and Nicholas Nyengerai triumphed among the Grandmasters, while Tabitha Tsatsa and Nicholas Mugomeri took the top spots in the women’s and men’s master categories.

Additionally, Monica Kativhu and Farai Mjeguli led the way in the veteran divisions, while Fortunate Chidzivo and Blessing Waison claimed victory in the open categories.

Isiah Mashinya, Old Mutual Zimbabwe, group chief customer and operations officer, expressed the significance of the event.

“The Old Mutual Harare Marathon embodies our commitment to fostering health and wellness within our communities. Every step we took today reflects our promise to unite people and build a sustainable future for all,” he said.

As participants crossed the finish line, they were met with cheers and a sense of accomplishment, highlighting the camaraderie that defines the Old Mutual Harare Marathon.

With its emphasis on community spirit, personal achievements, and healthy living, the event continues to make strides toward a healthier Zimbabwe.
