Bigger, Better Mutupo Isibungo returns

The season opener is scheduled to take place today at the magnificent Royal Harare Golf Club, with the finals also set for the same venue on Friday 13 December when the champions will be crowned.

The Mutupo Isibingo Golf Tournament is gearing up for another exciting season, with a focus on promoting cultural heritage and golf development in Zimbabwe. 

Traditional Partners Lake Harvest, Proton and Surrey Group will sponsor the event yet again this year.

The 2025 edition of the Mutupo Isibongo golf series was officially launched at Royal Harare Golf Club last Friday with the sponsors Proton, Surrey and Lake Harvest Mutupo pledging their support.

Mutupo Isibongo Golf tournament is part of Ranwa management events.

“Mutupo Isibingo has held us together as people and has strong bonding foundations cutting across generations and tribes. The use of the sport of golf is to promote a culture, is indeed a masterstroke as means of engagement, networking and establishing lasting relationships,” Ranwa Golf Management director Ephraim Mashingaidze said.

“The brand also helps to promote sports tourism as golfers travel to play the tournament in other provinces, thereby contributing to domestic local tourism.

“Our gratitude goes to the brand partners Surrey Group, Proton, and Lake Harvest. Our partners have been interacting with most golfers in Zimbabwe and the feedback, brand visibility and product promotion has been very positive through the Mutupo Isibingo Golf Brand.

“We are also going to invite schools that are close to the golf course to the tournament so that we pass it from one generation to another,” he added.

The tournament will return to Europe for the second year running, with the first event set for July 19 at Stratford Park Golf Club in Warwickshire, United Kingdom.

Speaking at the official launch, Proton Bakers Chief Sales Officer Daniel Chipato paid tribute on behalf of other sponsors to the organizers and the golf clubs across the country.

“l would like to express my sincere gratitude to the organizers, sponsors and our players both seasoned professionals and promising amateurs who work tirelessly to make Mutupo Golf tournament a reality. A special thank you to the golf clubs across the country and their staff for providing us with such immaculate venues,” he said.

“Golf is more than a sport, it is a test of patience, discipline and determination. This tournament represents more than competition. I encourage everyone to enjoy the game, respect one another and most importantly celebrate our culture,” Chipato said.

Last year 22 totems participated at the tournament with the Shumba totem winning its first Mutupo Isibongo golf tournament title at Royal Harare and the Dziva totem coming second while the Moyos settled for third place.
