Top Zimbabwe professional golfer Robson Chinhoi put up a good show after shooting an overall 3 – under par 285 to finish in a six-way tie for 21sth place in the South African PGA Championship held at St Francis Links, Eastern Cape last week.
Chinhoi carded 71 69 69 and 76 in four rounds to achieve his third-best performance on the Sunshine Tour this season.
The 33-year-old golfer is already a winner on the Sunshine Tour after his victory at the Zanaco Masters in May 2023 which remains the biggest win of his professional career.
Six Zimbabwean golfers competed at St Francis Links, including Stuart Krog, Dean Nysschen, Shaahid Mahmed, Pride Sembo, David Amm, and Chinhoi.
Krog is the only other player who managed to make the cut at the PGA Championship and finished in a tie for 50th place on 4 – over par 292 after 72 holes.
It was a weekend of fits and starts for Krog who signed for rounds of 75, 68, 76 and 73.
Benoni golfer Pieter Moolman won the PGA Championship, sponsored by African Bank with a one-stroke victory on 15 – under par in this prestigious competition which has been won by legendary golfers such Gary Player, Ernie Els, Nick Price, Mark McNulty, David Frost, and Dale Hayes, among others.
The South African PGA Championship was also proudly supported by the Eastern Cape Parks & Tourism Agency (ECPTA), the Sarah Baartman District Municipality, the Kouga Local Municipality, Momentum, and Cape St Francis Resort.

It is a strong finish to the season for Chinhoi who has two top 20 placings on the Sunshine Tour after he tied for 13th at the SunBet Challenge - Wild Coast in June and was 14th at the Fortress Invitational last month.
His other notable performance was a tie for 21st at the SunBet Challenge - Sun Sibaya last month.
Chinhoi is currently the second-best Zimbabwean on the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit on position behind Krog who sits 43rd from as many tournaments.
His other highlights include 24th at the Mediclinic Invitational, 25th place at Bain's Whisky Ubunye (TEAMS), and 30th in the Origins of Golf.
Among his other achievements on the African continent, Chinhoi is also a two-time winner of the Johnnie Walker Uganda Pro Golf Open Championship.
