A GOAL drought continued to stalk Chicken Inn as they played a goalless draw with Caps United in a lifeless Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Luveve Stadium yesterday.
Caps United got the first notable chance to make the difference in the 15th minute, but Kingsley Mureremba’s effort from outside the penalty area went wide.
He had benefited from a move started by William Manondo on the left.
Another dangerous moment for Chicken Inn came in the 22nd minute when pacy Bruce Kangwa made a solo move and sent in a cross from the left, but goalkeeper Donovan Bernard was quick to cut it out and save the situation for the Gamecocks.
The Green Machine dominated the first half attacking Chicken Inn from all angles.
Chicken Inn had a few moments of their own, but could not test the visitors’ goalkeeper Tonderai Mateyaunga.

Chicken Inn came back strong from the break and could have been rewarded inside 62nd minute but Innocent Muchaneka and Joseph Tulani were thwarted by an alert Mateyaunga.
A minute before fulltime, Caps United substitute Jayden Bakari had a chance to ensure his side picked up the desired maximum points when he came face-to-face with Bernard, but fluffled the golden opportunity.
On the stroke of full time, Brian Muza for Chicken Inn made a solo run beat two Caps United defenders, but shot wide.
Chicken Inn coach Joey Antipas was pleased with a point gained.
“I thought the game was even. A point is a point, we take it. But, I thought we could have sneaked it in the second half. We got a couple of chances and the goalkeeper made some brilliant saves. In the first half we were sparring and no one coming with a killer blow. We increased our intensity in the second half, put them under pressure, but it's goals that win the game,” Antipas said.
Caps United coach Lloyd Chitembwe said the effects of last week’s industrial action by the players had a bearing on the outcome of the match.
“It was a good game. On balance of play we did more to win it, but unfortunately it wasn't our day. In the last moment of the match, we had a very good chance to get a winner, but I just want to put this [failure to win] to the transgressions of last week. We did not have the best of preparations for a match. Sometimes in football some of these little things take away the element of luck, but I am sure the players have learnt through the hard way,” Chitembwe said.
