Shubman Gill is set to lead the youthful Indian side for the series against Zimbabwe, scheduled to start on July 6 at Harare Sports Club.

INDIA national cricket team selectors have picked only two players from their current T20 World Cup squad, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson, for the forthcoming five-match tour to Zimbabwe.

Shubman Gill is set to lead the youthful Indian side for the series against Zimbabwe, scheduled to start on July 6 at Harare Sports Club.

The rest of the games will follow on July 7, 10, 13 and 14.

Although the Asians’ squad may be short of international experience, most of the players chosen have immense value in the Indian Premier League, which has formed the basis of their selection.

These include Nitish Kumar Reddy, Tushar Deshpande, Abhishek Sharma and Riyan Parag, who has played Test cricket for India, is also in line for his T20I international debut.

The squad also comprises Khaleel Ahmed, Avesh Khan and Rinku Singh and will be coached by former Indian great VVS Laxman, who will be taking over the reins from yet another great, Rahul David, who signs off after the T20 World Cup currently underway in West Indies and the USA.

Hosts Zimbabwe, just like India, will be under a new coach in Justin Sammons, the former South Africa High Performance batting coach.

While Sammons may be working on identifying future stars, the majority of the squad will be desperate to prove their worth to the new gaffer and stake a claim in the squad for the unforeseeable future.

Explosive batsman and spinner Sikandar Raza will be expected to lead his charges against the carefree Indian line-up, who are one of the cleanest and finest hitters of the ball given their pedigree in the IPL.

Raza, on a personal front, will be hoping to better his record at the helm of the Chevrons in this shorter version of the game and starts making winning a habit.
