THE Zimbabwe national cricket team is still reeling from the agony of missing out on the ongoing International Cricket Council Men’s T20 World Cup in West Indies and the United States and will have to go through the Africa Regional Qualifiers yet again for a slot at the 2026 edition.
This followed USA’s qualification into the Super Eight stage in their debut T20 World Cup appearance.
Their 13th place ranking in the world has not helped matters.
Hosts for the 2026 T20 World Cup, India and Sri Lanka, have automatic entry.
Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, South Africa, the USA and the West Indies made their lives easier by progressing to the Super Eight stage of the on-going tournament.
The ranking places were filled by Ireland on position 11, New Zealand and Pakistan, leaving Zimbabwe with a task of having to go through the potential banana skin tournament.
Previously, the Chevrons, under the tutelage of former skipper, Dave Houghton, lost to Namibia and Uganda crashing out of the tournament at the group stage.
The experienced former coach, who had brought in a lot of optimism and self-belief in the team, choked twice against Namibia, having requested a pre-tournament series prior to the Qualifiers.
