Teenage golf sensation Braydon Amm has been selected to take part in this year’s edition of the R & A British Junior Open which will take place in July.

The 16-year-old golfer is a product of the later legendary golf coach Roger Baylis and made history two years ago when he became the youngest player to qualify for the Zimbabwe Open at the age of 14.

Ironically, he broke his older brother David’s record at the country’s premier golf event.

David Amm is now a professional golfer and the two brothers will be competing against each other at the FBC Zimbabwe Open currently underway at Royal Harare Golf Club after Braydon qualified for the tournament at the pre-qualifier held last Sunday.

“For me the British Junior Open is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I would be honoured to represent my country at this very prestigious event. I also feel I would gain valuable experience as well as international exposure. It is also a goal of mine to get a golfing scholarship and this would be a good step towards that,” Braydon said with regard to the British Junior Open opportunity.

The biggest challenge is financial resources for him to make the trip for the prestigious event.

A gofundme platform has been opened to help raise funds to enable the golf prodigy to travel to the UK for the event.

The budding golfer’s mum Pam Amm posted the gofundme link on the facebook platform and made a passionate plea for support on behalf of Braydon.

“Braydon has been selected to represent Zimbabwe at the R & A British Junior Open to be held in Scotland in July. Sadly ZGA (Zimbabwe Golf Association) does not sponsor or help in any way financially. Please help us get him there. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and a huge honour for him,” she said.

Meanwhile Braydon Amm was confident ahead of yet another Zimbabwe Open Championship appearance.

“I am feeling quite confident. I played pretty well in the pre-qualifier, I shot a 2 – under and managed to make the tournament. Playing with my brother definitely strengthens my game because he went to college and he knows a lot more than I do so he helps me here and there.

“I would like to try and finish the tournament under-par, hopefully make the cut and see what happens,” he said.
