VISITATION Makumbi High School in Domboshava turns 100 years next year and as part of the centenary preparations, a Charity Golf Day has been arranged to raise funds for some of the Mission school’s immediate needs.
The Charity Golf Day is scheduled for December 15 at Police Golf Club in Gunhill, Harare. Some of the areas that needs urgent attention includes laptops for students’ computer laboratory, minibus for the Children’s Care Home, modernization of ablution facilities, solar geysers, vehicles for pastoral work, refurbishment of the Convent and Fathers house, church benches, first and other medical related kits among other things.
Participants will be required to pay $260 per team, $60 per individual while holes 1, 10, 9, 18, 8, 2 and 14 attract a fee of $150- $200.
The event offers lots of advertising and marketing opportunities ranging from $2000 for platinum, $1500 for gold, silver $1000 and $500 for bronze.
Father Superior at the Mission school, Anesu Manyere said the buildup to the Golf Day has started in earnest with several confirmations being made.
“We are still getting responses to the fundraising initiative but so far we have had some very positive feedback and pledges from local as well as people in the Diaspora,” he told The Standard Sport.
“We have quite a number of participants who have confirmed. I cannot give names yet but there are big names that we have engaged. We have invited people from across the professions, the business world, and politicians.”
He added that golf provides a perfect setting for interaction and engagement, hence it was a natural fundraising choice.

“Golf brings people together. It is a more relaxed game and people can easily mix and mingle and engage at a very personal level,” added Manyere.
“Come and play and support your school and mission. It’s a reunion as well as a fundraising game. These days we are all too busy to meet and have fun. This is an occasion to do just that. It’s more than just playing golf. It’s re-engaging and who knows making some business deals.”
