Chadya wins big at Ngezi Platinum awards event

Goalkeeper Nelson Chadya was the biggest winner after he scooped the Player of the Year and Most Loyal Player accolades at Castle Lager Premier Soccer League side, Ngezi Platinum Stars Awards ceremony in Mhondoro-Ngezi on Thursday night.

Chadya finished the 2021/22 league season with 19 clean sheets, the best figures in the division which also earned him a place among the 11 Soccer Stars finalists.

The 25-year-old shot stopper was a strong contender for a place among the top three players in the league season as well as the Goalkeeper of the Year gong in the Premier SoccerLeague Awards held last night.

Having joined the club in its first season in the topflight league back in 2016, Chadya, who has been the mainstay in the team since then, was awarded for his loyalty to the ambitious outfit.

For his efforts, Chadya walked away with a floating trophy and US$1 000 cash while the other accolade had a US$500 cash prize attached to it.

“I am very excited to have been recognised for my efforts. These are just the fruits of the hard work that we put in as players throughout the season. I am also happy that at the start of the season I set some targets for myself and I managed to achieve them after having the most number of clean sheets in the league,” he told NewsDay Sport.

Other big winners on the night included striker Delic Murimba who was the club’s Top Goalscorer with 13 goals while former CAPS United utility man Carlos Mavhurume won the Player’s Player of the Year award.

Both players walked away with US$500 each.

The Rookie of the Year award was won by Leslie Kashitigu who had a brilliant debut season for the platinum miners, Elson Mweya received the Most Promising Player recognition as Malvin Kwinjo claimed the Most Improved Player gong.

Defender Polite Moyo was recognised as the Most Disciplined Player and Farai Madhanhanga as the Find of the Season. The club also unveiled the new board following a reshuffle as the club angles to challenge for the league title next season.

Takawira Masvisvi takes over as club president from Stanley Segula who has been at the helm since the formation of the team, with Wadzanayi Mutsakanyi  vice-president (administration and commercial), Garikai Bera as vice-president (governance and compliance) and Lysias Chiwozva as vice-president (technical).

Chairperson of the board Leonard Musariri completes the Ngezi Platinum Stars board.

Segula assumes the role of club patron.
