FORMER Zapu Matabeleland South organising secretary Patrick Dube has revealed that the organisation has discovered that individuals on the famous PF Zapu symbol “Isotsha elphethe umntwana” are alive.
He said it had recently been brought to their attention that the freedom fighter and the baby in the picture are not only alive but reside in Osabeni ward, Izimnyama of Mangwe Rural District Council in Matabeleland South province.
He identified the soldier as Seven Dube while the baby in the picture is Tshetshukuza Ngwenya who is the Osabeni ward councillor.
“The story is that the freedom fighter stumbled on this baby who was abandoned in the bush and he picked the baby and took him to his base in Zambia where he was cared for. Seems the grown up baby tracked down his saviour and they now stay together,” he said
According to Dube, the individuals were identified when they had a campaign rally last week where he said he was handing over to the incoming organising secretary in Izimnyama.
“It was during the handover ceremony where Seven Dube testified about the issue,” he said.
He said besides liberating the country, Dube also liberated a child.
Seven Dube said he discovered the child after a bombardment that had happened in that area and he took care of the baby together with other liberation fighters.

Zapu president Sibangilizwe Nkomo also confirmed that the man in the famous “Isotsha eliphethe umntwana” picture that became the PF Zapu logo during 1980 election had been found.
“The child in the picture is now known to be a councillor in Izimnyama, Plumtree. History suddenly came alive,” he said.
