A 34-YEAR-OLD woman from Pumula East, Bulawayo, will perform 420 hours of community service after having been convicted of stealing R30 000 she had been given to deliver to someone.

Precepties Ngubo pleaded guilty to the charge when she appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Nomagugu Maphosa, who ordered her to pay a restitution of R30 000 to the complainant, Mandlamahle Mguni, before April 10.

According to court papers, sometime in December last year, Ngubo was given R80 000 by Mguni to hand over to his colleague David Moyo.

Ngubo, instead, handed over R50 000 to Moyo and converted the remainder to own use.

Mguni told the court that the accused invented lies after being asked about the whereabouts of the rest of the money.

“She started making excuses, telling me about her mother who has recently died, but she is alive. She even asked Moyo to cover for her when I asked if she had given the money to him as I had instructed her,” he said.

Ngubo told the court that she used the money to pay her children’s school fees.

“I used the cash to pay school fees for my children in Esigodini,” Ngubo said.
