Let the Youth Speak their mind on succession politics: Zanu PF Youth Leader

Machakaire emphasized his duty to protect the right to freedom of expression for his members when they wade into the contentious succession politics.

ZANU PF Youth League leader, Tino Machakaire, says he will not to silence his members from expressing themselves on the party’s succession politics that threaten to tear the party apart.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Wednesday reiterated his commitment to respecting the constitutional two-term limit, which would see him step down in 2028.

The Youth League has been championing the extension of Mnangagwa's tenure to 2030, with the slogan "2030 VaMnangagwa vanenge vachipo" (President Mnangagwa will still be in power in 2030) dominating party gatherings.

Machakaire emphasized his duty to protect the right to freedom of expression for his members when they wade into the contentious succession politics.

"I cannot gag them when they express their desire for the President to continue his 2030 vision. I have to protect their rights to continue speaking their mind," he said.

"I have an obligation to take their views to the Presidium as their leader since I am the bridge between the President and the Youth league."

During a Zanu PF Youth League interface held at the party headquarters, Mnangagwa reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the Constitution on the two-term limits.

"As a soldier and a lawyer, I understand the importance of adhering to the constitution," Mnangagwa said.

He urged members to respect and abide by the party's rules and regulations, emphasizing the need for loyalty and defense of party interests.

During the meeting, members of the Youth Leage in their resolutions said: "We have seen the wonderful work you are doing , Your Excellency, therefore we want you to continue leading the country until your vision, Vision 2030 has been achieved.”

The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) recently commended Mnangagwa for his pledge to step down in 2028, encouraging a smooth and peaceful transition of power through a democratic process.
