FOUR unidentified men on Monday this week pounced on a fuel service station in Mkoba 6 in Gweru and stole US$6 000 cash.
Midlands province police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident yesterday saying: “The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a report of armed robbery involving US$6 000 which occurred at Total Filling Station Mkoba 6, Gweru on Monday, December 11 at around 1.30am.”
Mahoko said a security guard at the service station, Tinokudzaishe Mastock, who was on duty was approached by an unidentified man holding a plastic container. The unidentified man pretended to be looking for fuel.
Mastock reportedly told the man that the station was closed, but he suddenly produced a pistol and ordered him to lie down and tied his hands and legs with shoelaces.
“Three more suspects suddenly appeared and the four men forcibly opened the manager’s door. The robbers blasted a money safe box and took the US$6 000,” Mahoko said.
“A silver Honda Fit, whose registration number was not identified, suddenly appeared and picked the four men before driving away.”
Mahoko urged businesses to avoid keeping large sums of money at their premises.
In an unrelated incident which occurred on the same day, a 28-year-old woman was fatally struck by a train while listening to music using earphones.
