BEITBRIDGE socialite, Boniface Mapani was fined US$200 for fraud by magistrate Takudzwa Gwazemba on Tuesday.
His lawyer, Tawonga Musina of Musina Attorneys At Law, in mitigation begged for leniency after Mapani paid US$500 that he had defrauded the complainant, Kudakwashe Zowa..
“This is a serious offence, but consideration has been given that you have paid $500 towards the defrauded amount,” said Gwazemba in his ruling.
“In addition to the fine, you will be sentenced to four months in jail wholly suspended for five years.”
Gwazemba also gave Mapani up to October 20 this year to pay the balance of US$600.
In July last year, Mapani conned Zowa US$1 100 claiming that he could secure two bus permits for him.
But weeks turned to months without any permits, resulting in Mapani's arrest and subsequent trial.
