RISING hip-hop artiste Ismael Whisky whose stage name is 216Whisky says financial challenges are limiting up-and-coming artistes from coming up with quality productions.His song Gore became popular in December last year.
Whisky told NewsDay Life & Style that his vision is no match for his bank account which sometimes results in mediocre productions because of inadequate budgets.
The artiste also added that he wanted to be heard and had a lot of things he needed to express in a way people understand. He is happy about the audience and airplay accorded by radio stations.
“I spend three quarters of my time doing music and I cannot complain about the way radio stations have responded to my music. They have given me a chance while others are still in doubt but there are people who have believed in me, it is not bad for a start,” he said.
216Whisky’s track titled Gore attracted popular artistes such as Voltz Jt, Holy Ten, Poptain, Kikky Badass and Kae Chaps to remix the song.“Gore Remix gave me a chance to collaborate with some top hip-hop and dancehall artistes. I could not believe that an idea of a simple track could end up having a massive blowout. I do not want people to know me only as the Gore hitmaker. I want people to know me as an artiste that makes good music,” he said.
216Whisky noted that artistes need to be focused and disciplined to make it in the music industry. He urged fellow artistes to break boundaries and limitations, adding that people will always have opinions, but one must trust their instinct.
He believes that music must be good, it does not necessarily have to be meaningful or impactful depending on occasions as people need music at parties, enjoying themselves or when nobody is watching to accept reality or escape from it.
He is riding high on his track Nzira featuring WeDande which is sitting on 43 000 views on digital platform YouTube.
