Golf Zone: St Giles fundraises for occupational therapy wing

St Giles Rehabilitation Centre set out to raise US$15 000 to refurbish their occupational therapy whose equipment is old, outdated and broken down.

The country’s leading provider of rehabilitation services St Giles Rehabilitation Centre successfully held their highly subscribed charity golf tournament at Royal Harare Golf Club last Friday.

St Giles Rehabilitation Centre set out to raise US$15 000 to refurbish their occupational therapy whose equipment is old, outdated and broken down.

At least 30 companies came forward to support the initiative while 104 golfers took part in the golf tournament.

Veteran golfer Davison Elijah was the overall winner of the St Giles Rehabilitation Centre charity golf tournament.

St Giles Board Chairperson, Commissioner Nancy Mache was pleased with the support they got from the corporate community.

“All of you have been our all-weather friends, you have stood by us through thick and thin. And today I am more than grateful that you came out in numbers. A record breaking number of more than 30 different corporates came through to sponsor and donate toward this noble cause. A total number of 104 players were on the golf course today,” she said.

“Today we were fundraising for the refurbishment and procurement of equipment for the occupational therapy wing. Most of you are very much aware of physiotherapy. Occupational therapy may be difficult to define but it is that wing of rehabilitation that enables those who are living with disability to become independent particularly as you discharge them and go home so that when they are home they are able to bath and eat on their own and to maneuver within the home.

“Most of the equipment that we have in the center is old, outdated and broken down and we struggle to provide occupational therapy so this year we are taking up the challenge to refurbish and equip our occupational therapy wing. Our target is a mere US$15 000.

“St Giles rehabilitation center is a home for all of us, your family and your friends, each of us is a candidate or is related to a candidate of St Giles. I challenge you to come and take a tour so that you can understand and appreciate the services that we offer at St Giles do not some of those who get to know about St Giles when they are a patient,” Mache added.

The organization managed to raise the bulk of the targeted US$15 000 with guest of honour CBZ Group Chief Marketing and Corporate Affairs Officer Matilda Nyathi donating US$3 000 on behalf of the company while she added another US$1 000 on her personal capacity.

Some of the sponsors who made the event possible include Liquid Technologies, Nedbank, Crewe, MASCA, The Legacy Car Rental and the Zimbabwe Independent Newspaper, among others.
