Vincent brothers optimistic about Zimbabwe Golf future

Zimbabwe golf siblings Scott and Kieran Vincent have expressed optimism about the country’s future in the sport after three locals made the top 10 at the just ended FBC Zimbabwe golf Open.

The FBC Zim Open golf championship concluded at Royal Harare Golf Club on Sunday with Michael Hollick becoming the 12 th  South African in a row to win the competition since its return on the local scene in 2010.

Hollick finished on 20 - under par for the tournament after rounds of 66 67 68 and 67.

The older of the two Vincent brothers Scott was third six shots behind Hollick and four adrift of runner up Darren Fichardt while his young brother Kieran settled for fourth place together with Swede Fredrik From on 12 – under.

Ben Follet – Smith was the third Zimbabwean in the top 10 on 11 – under.

Robson Chinhoi finished the tournament in a six-way tie for 29 th  on 2 – under with amateur Matthew Bramford was 38 th  along with five other golfers on level par.

Stuart Krog (+1) Mohammad (+2) Pride (+4) and Biggie Chibvuri (+5) completed the list of nine Zimbabwean golfers who made the cut in the tournament.

Scott Vincent was full of praise for his young brother Kieran and Follett – Smith for making the top 10.

“They are amazing players. It’s great to see youngsters coming through like that and being in contention and having a chance to do something on the weekend. We had three Zimbabweans in the last four of five groups. I think that speaks a lot for Zimbabwe golf for the future.

Hopefully there is more coming and we will cheer them on as they make their way up,” he said after the tournament.

Kieran Vincent, who is enjoying his first season in LIV Golf League, was also impressed by the performance of the local golfers.

“In the past you would not expect to see a lot of Zimbabweans feature up there. I think it just shows that Zimbabwe golf is on the up. It was super exciting earlier this week to go to a junior golf clinic and see so many youngsters coming through the ranks.

“I am just super excited to see how Zimbabwe golf is moving in the right direction and showed at Zim Open with three guys in the mix. It definitely shows that Zimbabwe golf is on the up,” he said.

The two siblings expressed desire to come back to the FBC Zimbabwe Open next year as long as their schedules allow them.

“I would love nothing more than that to come and play every year. We just have to see scheduling and how that works out and if I can be here I will be here,” Scott Vincent said.

Kieran Vincent also echoed the same sentiments.
