Disney honours Zim actress

THE world’s acclaimed children’s television network, Disney, has honoured a Zimbabwean actress who featured in one of its plays as it celebrates its golden jubilee.

The 38-year-old Caroline Nyaka-Chana could not hide her elation  and dedicated the honour to Zimbabwe.

“What an awesome day. It is with great delight to be the recipient of the Disney’s 50th anniversary ‘figuring’ for playing Princess Tiana. I am so overjoyed. This one I am dedicating   to Zimbabwe [sic],” Nyaka-Chana said.

“It’s not Nyaka-Chana who has been honoured by Disney, but its Zimbabwe that’s how I am seeing it.”

The former Avondale Primary School pupil said the award should inspire anyone as success and recognition can be attained against all odds.

“It means so much to me and I hope somebody out there understand that it doesn’t matter where you come from, where it’s a background full of negativity,” she said.

“You can become whatever you put your mind to and having a positive mind attitude always helps.

“What you think of determine how far you go, ‘you are what you think’.”

She received the honour at Disney studios as she went down the memory lane.

“Its 10 years now since I was at Tiana’s Place and I would like to thank you for making it comfortable,” Nyaka-Chana said.

“We have got the memorabilia and I was emotional   when I look at the pictures, the family we was.”

The versatile arts personality is charming the globe arts scene.

In  2009, she featured in Hollywood’s Give My Regards to Hollywood, a 2007 musical production.

Her theatre debut was in 2006 where she was the only Black African in the cast of 33 in Half-A-Sixpence play and her act in the debut received rave reviews.

In 2020, she was appointed head judge of the World Monologues Game. Nyaka-Chana is also a gifted TV presenter having gone through the mill at BBC.
