EUPHORIA is gripping the country’s showbiz industry following the confirmation that Jamaican roots reggae musician Burning Spear was heading for Zimbabwe as part of his One People Africa Tour 2024.
Burning Spear, born Winston Rodney, completed a 22-day North America tour on June 28 and will soon be touring Europe from July 27 to August 11.
He returns to Africa in October having confirmed that Zimbabwe and South Africa would be part of the tour.
On his official Facebook page burningspearmusic, he posted: “Please see the time”.
The message was accompanied by a poster, which within a few minutes had gone viral among social media users, particularly roots reggae fans.

Another roots reggae fan Blessing Vava posted on Facebook: “African Postman, it’s a must attend.”
Burning Spear will perform in Harare’s Glamis Arena on October 18, according to organisers of the tour Sound System Club and Friends of Jamaica.
The following day the African Teacher hit maker will perform at the Emperors’ Palace (The Park) in Johannesburg, South Africa and on October 20 he will fly to Cape Town for a gig at the Mhudi Wines Farm.
Recently, Burning Spear scrapped off his Kenya tour following protests in that country and posted on his Facebook page:
"Greetings Kenya.
I man Winston Rodney aka Burning Spear stands with my brothers and sisters from Kenya.
I man love is unconditional. That being said I man do not want i man presence to add or make things worse. I want Kenya to be safe.
This is an official announcement I man will cancel or postpone the upcoming show that was scheduled for October 12th.
I cannot describe how I feel at this time.
We will talk soon.."
However, Burning Spear is yet to confirm the Kenyan visit.
Burning Spear is one of the most influential and long-standing roots artists to emerge from the 1970s.
He has won two Grammy Awards for Best Reggae Album; one at the 42nd Grammy Awards in 2000 for Calling Rastafari, and one for 2009’s Jah Is Real.
He has been nominated for a total of 12 Grammy Awards.
