HERENTALS Queens have advanced to the semifinals of the CAF Women's Champions League Cosafa Qualifiers despite losing 2-1 to South Africa's University of the Western Cape in Malawi on Monday.

The Lady Students led Group A log standings from the first match following a 4-1 demolition of FC Ongos of Namibia.

Going into their final group match, Herentals only needed a draw to proceed to the semi-finals.

However, FC Ongos surprised everyone with a 2-1 win over Green Buffaloes of Zambia in an early kickoff, allowing Herentals to secure their semi-final berth effortlessly.

The onus was left to UWC to do themselves a favour by beating Herentals to qualify for the semis and they did just that with two quick goals immediately after the halftime break.

UWC raced into the lead through Noxolo  Cesane's strike in the 46th minute.

Bongeka Gamede doubled the advantage for the South African side in the 60th minute before Alice Moyo grabbed Herentals' only goal with a ferocious strike after 81 minutes.

Herentals now await the winner of Group B, who will be winding off their group games on Tuesday.

The winner of this Qualifier will square off against reigning Africa Champions Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Women's Champions League finals.
