5 in court for possession of explosives

Mudyiwa and Mhondiwa were released on US$100 bail each.

FIVE men appeared at the Harare Magistrate Courts facing a charge of possession of explosives without a permit and unlawful possession of articles for criminal use.

Trymore Mudyiwa (29), Isa Bwanali (52) Consisia Kambuzuma (46), Muchaziva Mufandauya (49) and Clemence Mhondiwa (39) appeared before Harare regional magistrate Dennis Mangosi.

Mudyiwa and Mhondiwa were released on US$100 bail each.

Allegations are that on June 22 this year, the suspects were driving a red Toyota Raum along New Chitungwiza Road towards edible oil processor and expresser Surface Wilmar.

The court heard that they were stopped by detectives from CID Homicide Harare on an operation.

Mudyiwa, who was the driver, complied after detectives identified themselves and explained the nature of their operation.

The police recovered two pairs of catapults from a black satchel, four fuse explosives, six Emex 70 dangerous explosives and four catapult stones.

Further searches were done leading to the recovery of two iron bars, a baton, torch, an okapi knife and a hammer in the motor vehicle.

Rufaro Chonzi represented the State.
