I am more passionate about music than school: Brandy Bee

Nkala, a 23-year-old veterinary science third year student said he does not see himself using his educational qualification in the future as he plans to be a full-time artist.

DESPITE enrolling at the University of Zimbabwe, musician Brandon “Bee” Nkala said he is more passionate about music rather than his academics.

Nkala, a 23-year-old veterinary science third year student said he does not see himself using his educational qualification in the future as he plans to be a full-time artist.

Nkala fuses Afro beats and reggae and has seven songs under his belt- Usadzoke, Nakupenda, Bho Here, Ruva Remoyo and Zvisina Basa, among others.

Unlike many people who go to university to acquire a degree and get a full-time professional job, Nkala said he is there to create social capital that he will use in the future when he becomes a full time musician.

“To be honest, I do not see myself making a living from books and the degree I am studying towards,” Nkala said.

“I do not intend to practice after my studies because most of my time will be directed to singing. I am not that passionate about books as compared to music.”

Nkala revealed that he accidentally stumbled into music back in school.

“My music journey started as an accident when I was in sixth grade, I joined a choir group because it was the only vacant club left and to my surprise I was given the solo part for the final competitions.

“Fast forward to 2016, I pioneered the formation of an acapella group which later dissolved in 2017 then my solo career began in 2018 with my first studio track under Lion Kingdom Africa, since then I never looked back.

“I am not where I expect myself to be yet but my love for music and faith in God will open major doors for me.”
